Future Czech Tradition

CV

The Doležal Quartet is a Czech ensemble which in 2022 celebrated 50 years since its foundation in 1972. Throughout the generations, the ensemble has celebrated success at international competitions such as the Bordeaux Competition (1977), the Prague Spring Competition (1975) and the Leoš Janáček Competition (2010 and 2015). The Dolezal Quartet is the only ensemble in the more than 120-year history of the Czech Chamber Music Society at the Czech Philharmonic to have received the Society's Award for outstanding performance in chamber music twice (1989 and 2015). The ensemble has recorded numerous CDs, for which it has received numerous awards. The latest CD produced in cooperation with Supraphon contains not only world premieres of Josef Mysliveček's string quartets but also his oboe quintets - these have been rediscovered and recorded in collaboration with oboist Michaela Hrabánková. This recording was highly praised by Diapason magazine for its fresh and stylish interpretation and its musicological contribution (5 Diapason 2/2021). Supraphon also released a CD recorded with pianist Jan Bartos (2017), which received a very positive review in Fanfare magazine "...Apart from Alfred Brendel's recording with the Alban Berg Quartet (EMI), the chamber version of the A major concerto KV 414 on their CD is quite unique. Nevertheless, Bartos and his colleagues give the work a treatment that, thanks to its charm and charm, need not fear comparison with the recording in question." The CD of chamber works recorded in collaboration with the solo clarinet player of the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, Blaž Šparovec, received an exceptionally high rating in Klassik heute (2014). The Doležal Quartet has performed in many countries in Europe, the USA, Japan and China. The ensemble has collaborated with Jean-Guihen Queyras, Maximilian Hornung and Ivo Kahánek, among others. In 2021, the ensemble founded the Qu@rtet+ chamber music festival in Prague, which brings together the Doležal Quartet with leading Czech and international artists. Over the years, the ensemble has made dozens of recordings for radio and television in the Czech Republic, USA, France, Germany, Austria and Slovakia (most recently the world premiere of Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst's Quartet and Ivan Kurz's Quartet No. 4, which was dedicated to the ensemble). In 2016, the Doležal Quartet was awarded a scholarship to the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid in the class of Prof. Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet). It has consulted, among others, with Prof. Milan Škampa (Smetana Quartet) and established a particularly warm relationship with Natalia Prishepenko (Artemis Quartet). The Doležal Quartet plays with Václav Dvořák, Alexej Rosík (violin), Martin Adamovič (viola) and Vojtěch Urban (cello).
